About Chef

Executive Chef, Chelo Manzanarez, born and raised in Acapulco Guerrero (West Coast of Mexico) wanted to share his culinary heritage combined with contemporary world flavors and visually tempting dishes. Driven by his family ancient recipes, his passion for creating delightful food experiences and his untamable determination, he decided to begin (with his family‘s support) El Mictlan journey.

Roots

From the Aztec mythology, Mictlan represents the journey that all the souls have to follow, with the guidance of the god of fire Xolotl.

Mexican folklore revolves around the cycle of life, one of the biggest festivities being The Day of the Dead, when is believed that the loved ones that have passed come back one day a year to celebrate with their friends and family.

Vision

Our goal is to be heard from guests from all over and across Philadelphia and beyond. We offer a rustic yet contemporary view to enjoy among friends and family.
